1959 Chevrolet Corvette by Pogea Racing

The Chevrolet Corvette made its debut in 1953, marking the first, and arguably the best, generation for the iconic sports car. Crazy as it seems, an owner of one of these first generation jewels wasn’t satisfied and made a call to Pogea Racing to give his 1959 Corvette some "modern" treatment. Now that classic sports car can boast of "contemporary driving characteristics, a terrifically powerful engine, dependable brakes and a refined vehicle interior with classic bodywork."

One of the things we are certain the Corvette had when it entered Pogea Racing’s shop was class, so getting it to the next level would seem to be an easy task. For this, Pogea Racing painted the Corvette in a classic combination of the original Ferrari colors, Rosso and Bianco. That’s red and white for us common folks. The Corvette was then given a generously-sized sports brake system taken from the Corvette LS5 and a new set of 18" racing wheels to top it off.

1959 Cadillac Eldorado

Eldorado was a model built by Cadillac from 1953 to 2002. The name Eldorado was derived from the Spanish words "el dorado", the "gilded one"; the name was given originally to the legendary chief or "cacique" of a South American Indian tribe. Legend has it that his followers would sprinkle his body with gold dust on ceremonial occasions and he would wash it off again by diving into a lake. The name more frequently refers to a legendary city of fabulous riches, somewhere in South America, that inspired many European expeditions, including one to the Orinoco by England’s Sir Walter Raleigh. 

1938 Buick Y-Job

Buick called it "Y" because so many makers dubbed experimental cars "X." Styling and mechanical features of the "Y Job" showed up on GM products, particularly Buick and Cadillac, throughout the ’40s. Particularly noteworthy is the introduction of a wide horizontal grille with thin vertical bars, which remains a Buick styling feature to this day.

But dream cars, like yesterday’s newspapers, have a short shelf life. The Y-Job’s innovative styling and advanced features soon paled alongside even more futuristic products from GM’s supercharged design staff. The Y-Job was eventually consigned to a warehouse, and later transferred to the Sloan Museum in Flint, Mich. There the Y-Job languished in dusty anonymity - until a burgeoning interest in Detroit’s fanciful dream cars rescued the Y-Job and its descendants from obscurity.

2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition

Bugatti has decided to honor one of its biggest markets with three special Veyron Grand Sport models especially for the Middle East market. These three models have been revealed at the 2011 Dubai Motor Show and come in three different colors: yellow, blue, and green. The yellow Grand Sport is priced at 1.58 million euros ($2,150,000 at the current rates), while the other two are priced at 1.74 million euro ($2,373,000 at the current rates) each.

The first Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition combines a bright yellow body with black carbon insertions and black-tinted wheels. The interior shares the same color combination with yellow leather seats with black stitching and a black carbon console, while the dashboard, steering wheel, and gearshift are encased in black leather with yellow stitching.

The second Grand Sport model features a two tone exterior with blue carbon framed in polished, anodized aluminum. This model is highlighted with a special set of wheels in an aluminum polished and Diamond Cut two-tone finish, aluminum insertions on the front grille, and air intakes. The interior combines tangerine leather with dark blue Indigo leather or exposed blue carbon fiber.

The third - and final - special edition Veyron Grand Sport features a newly developed green carbon fiber exterior combined with polished aluminum on the rims, rear-view mirrors, and the EB-logo. The interior also combines green and silver to seal the color combination.

2011 BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept

There may have been a lot of buzz over V12 powered supercars and the next best thing to break 200mph on an average road, but BMW has gone a different route. The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive has made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show and is showcasing all of the technology BMW has been developing and will be integrating into future cars. Just by looking at this concept it is easy to tell that it will never make it to production in this form, but many of the technologies and ideas found within could be coming out sooner than you think.

Official BMW representatives said: "In 2011 the automobile industry is celebrating the anniversary "125 yeas of the automobile," reason enough to not only look back, but also to look forward. Connectivity is one of the key fields of tomorrow’s world. And of course, we at BMW are proud to be among the pioneers of connected driving: for example, with the first on-board internet access in 2008, the first iPod integration in 2004, or the first ultrasound-based park distance control PDC in 1991."

1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing auctioned for $4.62 million

Put the word iconic in front of anything and its price will undoubtedly skyrocket. Case in point: The Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is an amazing and iconic model in the history of Mercedes’ vehicles, inspiring many of the models that succeeded, including the SLS AMG. One of the 29 models ever created was put up at the Gooding & Company auction where it was sold for $4.62 million, a new record for this vehicle.

So what’s so special about this Mercedes? Aside from its limited availability, the 300SL Gullwing was built off of the 300SL Racer and features an aluminum alloy body with stiffer, shorter springs that lowered the car and enhanced peak performance. It sits on wider rims housing vented brake drums and was about 200 lbs lighter than the standard steel-bodied version.

Bentley Continental GTC V8

Bentley put a hold on developing any new models in order to work on a new 4.0 liter, twin turbocharged V8 engine that we already expected to see in the Continental GT V8 at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Details for the Coupe model were already revealed to that effect, but now that the auto show has opened its doors, the new Continental GTC V8 was there, welcoming the auto industry with open arms with its new engine and a total of 500 HP and 487 lb ft of torque. In Europe, the GTC V8 is priced at €149,600 - or about $191,000 at the current exchange rates. Prices for the North American market will be announced at a later date.

Audi A6 Avant

  

Audi has just revealed the A6 Avant in Berlin. The Avant is the most successful business-class station wagon in Europe and the new model will be offered with a choice of six engines with an 18% fuel consumption, a lightweight body, and many additional innovations.

The base version will be offered with a 177 HP 2.0 TDI engine, while the top model gets a 313 HP 3.0 TDI engine. The 2.0L TDI version is the most impressive when it comes to fuel economy with a total of 47 mpg on the highway.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster Review

We kinda feel bad that the North American International Auto Show is being pushed to the side by all this buzz surrounding the Geneva Motor Show. But such is the case with arguably the biggest auto event in the world; only Frankfurt can match Geneva in magnitude.

But that’s neither here nor there at this point. What’s important is that automakers are slowly revealing their company plans for Geneva, even if its still three months away. One such is Aston Martin, which, according to GTSpirit, is prepared to unveil a roadster version of the vaunted V12 Vantage at Geneva. There’s not much in the way of details, but news of the V12 Vantage Roadster’s arrival has been years in the making, as evidenced by spy shots of the car dating all the way back to a few years ago.

Alfa 147 Ducati Corse

The Alfa 147 Ducati Corse has a new 1.9 JTDM engine (170 bhp) which accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 215 Kph.

The powerful 1.9 JTDM 170 bhp engine is paired with the “Q2” system (self-locking front differential) which significantly improves roadhold, traction and stability while reducing understeer during acceleration and intervention of electronic control systems.
Specifically, the Torsen “Q2” system is responsible for the continuous dynamic distribution of torque between the front drive wheels, depending on driving conditions and road surface. The self-locking differential combined with the quadrilateral front suspension allows the Alfa 147 to achieve handling performance and roadhold that are among the best in its class.
